French independence day, Bastille Day, is this Saturday July 14th and Portland has some fantastic ways to celebrate. First grab your copy of The Tall Trees of Paris and get a peek into the lives of Paris-based artists. Then head out to “The West Coast’s largest Bastille Day celebration,” in the Pearl district. The celebration is free and will have French-inspired music, food, and even fencing! Artists and crafters will be there showing off their wares.

As the day heats up, cool down in the river with The Big Float. The float is a fundraiser for The Human Access Project, which is a project to bring the Willamette back to people for swimming and, well, floating! Join this river party and enjoy live music and a lovely view of Portland’s majestic bridges, including Tilikum Crossing. Learn all about the country’s largest pedestrian bridge in your copy of Tilikum Crossing, Bridge of the People: Portland's Bridges and a New Icon.
