Our brand new book, High-Proof PDX, launches in less than two weeks! We are so excited to welcome author Karen Locke to the Overcup family, and want you to get to know her too.
"You could say my first taste of the Portland food and drink scene was instantaneous. I started writing about Portland restaurants only a month after moving here from Minneapolis in 2011. My fondness for all things culinary and boozy pre-date my residency in Portland though. After traveling MSP>BKK—and returning to the States—I worked in five Thai restaurants as a server and bartender. Little did I know then that my bartending hangovers would all be in name of writing about what I love most; the part before the hangover.
Lately, there’s no better compliment than someone asking, “which bar or restaurant should I check out next?” My ability to give solid eating and drinking advice stems from more than experiential gut aches—it’s backed by years of writing about food and drink in Portland.
For nearly three years I served as Editor of Drink Portland. Two years prior and somewhat simultaneously, I was hired as a Portland-based Citysearch scout. I give tips for the best food and drink in the city. I’ve written about food and drink for Bon Appétit, Thrillist, Sip Northwest, Chilled magazine, OnTrak magazine, Tales of the Cocktail, Willamette Week, MIX magazine, Mise magazine, and more. You can find me in dimly lit bars and restaurants or exploring the Pacific NW when I’m not writing about cocktails or working full time as a creative marketer and content strategist.
