Welcome back to "The Boozy Book-Lovers Favorite Reads and Drinks," where we pair DIY drinks with our favorite Overcup Press titles.
This week, we’re pairing a sweet and tart drink that is every bit as delicious as it is beautiful with a book that is equally beautiful to look at: Blackberry Whiskey Lemonade and The Tall Trees of Tokyo by Matt Wagner. Showcasing the work of 30 contemporary Tokyo artists and organized according to the train lines where each artist lives, The Tall Trees of Tokyo has 132 gorgeous full-color pages and is the perfect book to flip through while you sip on this tart, bright purple cocktail.
What You’ll Need:
For Blackberry Syrup
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup blackberries
- ½ cup water
For the Cocktail
- 1 shot whiskey
- 1 cup lemon juice
- ½ cup blackberry syrup
- tonic water to taste
Directions :
Step 1: In a pan, bring all blackberry syrup ingredients to a low temp. Simmer and continue to stir.
Step 2: While the syrup is simmering, add the lemon juice to a cup of ice.
Step 3: Add a shot of your favorite whiskey.
Step 4: Once finished, add the blackberry syrup (you may strain the mixture if you don't want the seeds, or you can pour it all into the cup).
Step 5: Top with tonic water to taste.
Viola!
